EwE Course 2025
Welcome to the Ecopath with Ecosim course, 27-31 October 2025 at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC), Barcelona, Spain. This course is organized to familiarize novice and experienced users with the core principles of the EwE modelling approach, some important applications, and the latest features of the software.
This course is organised on behalf of five projects, in alphabetical order: ActNow (EU H2020), GES4SEAS (EU H2020), MORAI (EU H2020), Strategias Marinas (Spain), and SURIMI (Horizon Europe), and is endorsed by ICES.
The course will have two parts:
-
The first three days, October 27, 28 and 29, will be a generic introduction to the EwE approach, placing focus on the foundation Ecopath module (data needs, parameterization, mass-balancing) and Ecosim (temporal dynamics, data needs, model fitting). Ecospace (spatial-temporal dynamics) will be briefly explained.
-
The last two days, October 30 and 31, will focus on more advanced uses of Ecospace. These days will address topics such as setting up species distributions and movement, fisheries management, cumulative impact assessments, and the combined use of EwE with external tools, data and models.
The courses will alternate presentations with plenty of hands-on time.
Registration will open to the contributing projects on April 15, 2025.
Public registration will open May 15, 2025.
